Upon moving to San Francisco, CA and studying at the Academy of Art University, Alicia took a keen interest in women's issues and began to document the complex lives of sex workers. Eventually she moved to Mexico City to freelance full time and rediscover her family's' roots. She is an Eddie Adams XXIII alumni, is part of Reportage for Getty Images after winning the Getty Emerging Talent Award in 2013, and was shortlisted for Burn Magazine's Emerging Photography Fund 2013.
