First let me introduce myself! My name is Marios Karakatsanis, I'm 35, I'm dyslexic and I feel good! And why
should I not feel so good, I have
dyslexia and not any other severe illness! Well, that’s how I got the need to write this article.should I not feel so good, I have
Because no one can understand the strange world a dyslexic has in his mind. Especially, when he himself is not aware of the problem!
Let's take things from the beginning. What is a dyslexic? Not, however, someone who has a speaking problem as many people think. Let's see what psychologist Lyrica Sklavounou says: “Dyslexia as a concept, is a term medically diagnosed, as a learning disorder that causes problems in reading and writing, words. In dyslexia, because there is treatment, it does not mean that it is a disease. However, if diagnosed early, they should treat as many signs bearing as a result of dyslexia. Our goal is the immediate prognosis in order for early treatment. Dyslexia has symptoms, which the sooner they are detected, the better they can be treated.
Dyslexia, to be clear about it, is neither a disease, nor is transmitted. Dealing with it, therefore belongs to a neurological dysfunction causes and inheritance. A person who is born with dyslexia, will die with it. As very simply, a person who is born to write with his left hand, which was once reprehensible and was greatly forced to change hand in writing, so the same here, he was born left-handed and left-handed he will die. Such as we are born with blue eye color, the same goes for dyslexia.
Certainly, dyslexia affects the lives of people who experience it. They live in disability, on the sidelines, because of difficulty in learning to engage in school development stages as the other children. The failure they face is not their responsibility and yet strongly influences their mentality. Greater attention, we experts must take into account and more, is in what form of level is a dyslexia. Mild? Average? Severe? I have said many times and repeated publicly at every opportunity that the parents leaving the maternity clinic, should be given a basic instructions book, and not to abandon them to their inexperienced new role, with a great deal of requirements.
Even before preschool age, to provide them with a book that contains the basic problems they will be facing, in more general terms. In particular dyslexic individuals have many talents with higher skills, excellent perception of space, and this element is often misleading. Their oral speech does not need speech therapy and thus the diagnosis will take longer as a result in losing valuable time. Another drawback for their diagnosis is that there is no issue of mental retardation, but which, because a dyslexic writes and reads differently, causes disorientation between diagnosis of dyslexia and diagnosis of mental retardation. A dyslexic has qualities that we don’t, nor will we ever be able to obtain. The images in his mind are sharp and vibrant. They are overwhelmed by creative thoughts and have a highly sensitive emotional world full of positivity. Dyslexia, I want to emphasize here is not a learning disability, it is simply the problem that prevents the learning difficulty! Therefore, the specialists treat dyslexia as a problem or a syndrome.
But because people with dyslexia are more efficient in speaking and in their intelligence, with highly creative thinking, the only way dyslexia can be perceived is by up to date specialists educational institutions. However, the IQ test, is necessary in order to exclude the possibility of mental deprivation. Many children with dyslexia, with outstanding intelligence, were destroyed because of a wrong diagnosis of being mentally retarded. Their peculiarity is that they think a lot with images, but it does not mean that we exclude the possibility of lag in speech, in some cases of dyslexic children. The main feature of a mentally retarded child or a dyslexic, is that the dyslexic child is weak either in speech or in writing, never in both as a mentally retarded child.
But just how easy is it for a dyslexic person to live with this syndrome? What are the impacts to be faced? Many celebrities had dyslexia, like Einstein, John Lennon, Picasso, Leonardo Da Vinci, and many others. In cases of dyslexia, ignorance of its existence, is a killer, and that’s why now at this point I will give you the main symptoms. Dyslexia is in fact the learning difficulties in writing and reading. The factors as mentioned above are hereditary and genetic. Therefore the test, PAVLIDIS TEST, is mandatory.
